What is art therapy?

Art therapy is a creative and expressive therapeutic approach that uses art-making as a means to explore emotions, thoughts, and experiences. It provides a non-verbal way for individuals, couples, and families to express themselves and work through challenges! Through creative activities such as drawing, painting, and sculpting, clients can gain insight into their feelings and develop coping strategies in a safe and supportive environment. Art therapy is beneficial for people of all ages and can be particularly helpful for those who find it difficult to express themselves verbally.

I always found solace and joy in the arts, whether it was through sketching in my notebook or experimenting with colors on canvas. I’ve seen firsthand how creativity can open doors to understanding and healing. In my practice, I strive to create a space where you can explore and express your inner world without judgment! Art therapy isn’t just about making something you’ll hang on your wall one day; it’s about discovering the beauty within yourself and finding new ways to navigate life’s challenges. I’m passionate about helping others find their voice through art and witnessing the transformative power of creative expression. Learn more about my past work as an art therapist here.

What is outdoor walk-and-talk therapy?

Outdoor walk-and-talk therapy is a form of therapy where sessions are conducted while walking outside in a park. This approach combines traditional talk therapy with the benefits of gentle movement while being in nature. It can help clients feel more relaxed and open, as the informal setting often reduces the pressure of a traditional therapy office!

Growing up, I knew I never wanted the traditional 9-5 desk job. I’ve always believed in the power of the natural world to inspire and heal. Walking outdoors not only breaks the conventional therapy mold but also fosters a sense of freedom and connection! The open environment encourages more fluid and genuine conversations, allowing insights to emerge more naturally. Being outside can help enhance mental clarity and well-being, making it a unique and effective way to explore personal issues and work towards emotional goals. Check out more benefits for walk-and-talk therapy here!

Do you see children and teens for therapy?

Yes! I work with children aged 5 and up across the state of Maryland virtually, and in-person in both Baltimore County and Harford County, Maryland. For children under 5, I require an additional consultation to determine if art therapy would be a suitable fit and to ensure that we can meet the child’s specific needs effectively! Is art therapy also for adults?

Yes, art therapy is absolutely for adults! It provides a valuable avenue for self-expression and healing, addressing a range of emotional and psychological challenges. Many adults discover that engaging in creative activities helps them process complex feelings, reduce anxiety, and gain deeper insights into their experiences.

As adults, we often talk ourselves out of our feelings, but art therapy allows us to slow down and truly process what we're going through (or what we have been through). Whether coping with stress, trauma, or seeking personal growth, art therapy creates a supportive space for exploration and connection. Find out about inner child healing for adults here.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions can take place in several locations to best meet your needs. Some clients do hybrid (both in-person and virtual) while other prefer to just be virtual:

  • Office In-Person in Towson: Located in Towson, MD (very close to Trader Joe’s!) my office provides a comfortable and private setting for our sessions.

  • Outdoors in Perry Hall : For a more natural and relaxing environment, we can arrange sessions at a local park for walk-and-talk therapy in Perry Hall, Maryland.

  • Online via Telehealth: I also offer virtual sessions to provide flexibility and convenience if meeting in person is not feasible. Many of my teen and adult clients prefer meeting over telehealth in the comfort of their own home!

What are your favorite therapeutic approaches?

I am particularly passionate about using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and parts work in my practice. ACT focuses on helping individuals accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to actions that align with their values. Parts work involves exploring different aspects of one’s self to foster understanding and integration. Both approaches are powerful tools in art therapy and can help clients navigate their emotional landscapes and personal growth!

Are you in-network with insurance?

I made the intentional choice to remain out of network in order to provide the best possible support to my clients. This allows me to maintain a lower caseload, ensuring that I can stay highly attuned to each individual’s needs. As an out-of-network provider, I am not contracted with insurance companies. However, many clients have successfully received reimbursements from their insurance for therapy sessions, typically ranging from 50-80% of the session cost. I can provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed receipt of our sessions. You can submit this superbill to your insurance company for potential reimbursement under your out-of-network benefits.

Can you explain to me more about what exactly is a superbill? How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?

I offer the option to provide you a superbill, which is a receipt of services that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement for your sessions. You can check if you have out-of-network mental health benefits through your insurance company by calling the number on the back of your health insurance card.

I recommend your insurance company directly over the phone and asking them the following questions can help you determine your out-of-network coverage:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible for out-of-network coverage?

  • Have I met my deductible this year for out-of-network coverage?

  • What percentage of each session will I expect to be reimbursed for? (CPT code 90837)

  • What is the best way to submit claims for reimbursement?

  • About how long does it take to be reimbursed?

If you would like to receive superbills, you can request them during your intake session or throughout treatment by logging into the Client Portal.

When is payment due for sessions?

Payment is due in full on the day of your session. Your credit card information is securely stored for automatic processing through the Client Portal. The system will automatically charge you the day of your session. I charge a cancelation fee equal to the cost of your session ($160) if you cancel less than 24 hours before your session.

That is awesome that your team is growing and that you will have an art therapist on your team! Currently right now, I am contracted with several practices across Maryland as a supervisor to provide supervision to their staff and would be happy to discuss supervising your staff member. Let’s arrange a time to meet for a cup of coffee and discuss their needs and how I can best support them in their professional development!

  • Thursdays biweekly (2pm-3pm)

Can we meet for a brief video consultation before I begin supervision?

Absolutely! I prefer to meet with new potential supervisees. Just as finding the right therapist is crucial for your personal growth, finding a clinical supervisor who aligns with your style, learning goals, and approaches is equally important. A brief video consultation or coffee chat is a great way to ensure that our working relationship will be a good fit.

During this initial meeting, we can discuss your specific needs, goals, and expectations for supervision. It’s also an opportunity for you to get a sense of my supervisory style and approach. I believe that maintaining an active clinical practice while providing supervision is essential. It helps me stay engaged and current with the therapeutic work, ensuring that the guidance I offer is both relevant and practical.

This consultation allows us to explore whether our collaboration will support your professional development effectively. It’s all about ensuring that we create a supportive and productive environment that fosters your growth and success. Learn more about my values as a supervisor here.

A labyrinth represents a journey of self-discovery and exploration. Unlike a maze with multiple paths and dead ends, a labyrinth has a single, continuous path leading to the center and back out, symbolizing the journey inward to find deeper understanding and then emerging with new insights! This mirrors the therapeutic process where individuals explore their inner selves, navigate through complex emotions, and work towards personal growth and healing.

By combining elements of creativity, movement, and nature, I aim to create a nurturing environment where you can explore your emotions, build resilience, and gain deeper self-understanding.
